Sergei Eisenstein

i like Eisenstein's idea about montage which two of more images create narrative of a deeper meaning. The is exactly how images work in video game. There are always two of more images interactive. When they do that they start bouncing back ideas in each other and present to the players. The consistent between images in games has to be control and well choose. The images have to be connect to each other to create reasonable ideas. If super mario is present into resident evil world everything will be bizarre and don't make any sense. Symbolize is another key point in visual representation. The images have to be understandable since everyone thinks differently. Logical but cool design are the first step of cool video games.

  1. I agree. It is surprising how well the ideas of montage work with video games (and music videos too). However, is there a sense in which video games utilize conflict between images rather than continuity?

  2. most time, the images have to follow the same category to create a self explanatory universe (like a Wild Western time, Mayan Ruins in a forest etc.), but yes there are a lot times video games use totally opposite types of images to create contrast to make the story (game play as well) more interesting. Like Tomb Raider...a modern Treasure Hunter carries guns, bazooka traveling around in mysterious ruin places.
